Miniature Roses - A Rose Garden Inside Your House

Miniature roses are easy to grow inside or out. Although they give off very little or no aroma, they make an excellent addition to your landscape They are virtually maintenance-free. Just water once a week and they will last quite a long time.

It is common for people to assume that miniature roses will make good houseplants. However, miniature roses can be up to four feet tall which makes for a large houseplant that needs sufficient lighting. Micro-mini roses will only get up to about five inches tall and are as easy to maintain as miniature roses. You may still want to keep your miniature roses inside, and there are numerous ways to make this task easier.

One thing you want to do when keeping them indoors is to be sure to put them in direct sun. One indicator that your rose is not receiving sufficient light is gapped stems. You will see wide spaces between leaves. If this happens, move your plant to a different spot or supplement it with more light.

You also need to wipe down your plant every week. Spider-mites will be less likely to attack a plant if you carefully spray the top and underside of leaves. This will eliminate dust. Also, be sure you get a pot that is the right size for the plant. A small pot will cramp a plant, whereas a large plant will stunt growth.

Most miniature roses bloom from spring to winter. If you are growing yours outdoors, cover them with mulch which will help them make it through the harsh winters. You can plant them in the ground or in a basket or an eight to ten inch pot. They love the sun, so make sure they are fully exposed.

If you opt to plant your roses in the ground, make sure you dig about a one foot by one foot hole. Remove the rose from the container and untangle any loose roots. Place the roots in the hole and refill the hole with any loose soil. Make sure you plant them levelly and water them thoroughly just as you would if planting them in a pot.

Because the first three weeks of growing plant’s are imperative, you must not let the soil dry out. Roses love to be watered, so it is important to do so to your new plant each day for three weeks. After this time, concentrate on maintaining the moisture in the soil by checking it daily. Water your plant when the soil begins to feel dry.

Miniature roses will make a great accent in your living room, flower bed edges, or anywhere you need lots of color added.
